Burning soy wax candles have so many benefits you could be missing out on if you're used to burning your traditional paraffin based candles. Soy is better for your health, your atmosphere, and the environment. Keep reading to find out why!

Soy Wax is Natural

Derived from the soybean, soy wax is a hydrogenated vegetable oil that turns to a solid at room temperature. Soy wax contains nothing artificial, which makes it a better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum (a nonrenewable source) and produces harmful by-products when burned or melted.

Cleaner Burning

A candle made from soy wax burns cleaner with little soot released as the candle burns. Paraffin candles often create a significant amount of black soot that collects on the jar, as well as on your walls and other surfaces of the home.

Non-Toxic

Soy wax does not release dangerous carcinogens into the air when melted like paraffin wax does. When a paraffin candle is burning, it releases at least 11 known toxins—two of which are carcinogens—into the air. Carcinogens are known to cause cancer in some people.

Soy Candles Burn Longer

Soy candles typically last longer than a paraffin candle of the same size, according to Planet Green. The reason behind the longevity of soy candles is the slower burning time and cooler burning temperature of the soybean-based wax. You may pay more for a soy candle initially, but the longer-lasting burn means you won't have to buy new candles as often.

Environmentally Friendly

Since soy wax is made from soybeans, it is friendly to the environment because soybeans are a renewable resource. This is especially important if you are pregnant, have kids, or have pets, because it’s the safest option health-wise. You want to avoid wax blends or candles that don’t state the exact breakdown of ingredients. Using candles made from soy supports local agriculture and farmers, allowing them to make money and grow their operations.

Better Scent

A soy candle works well for holding onto the scent from essential oils, which are often used to scent candles. Because they burn more slowly, the scent is gradually released; there won't be an immediate wave of strong scent. This creates a more pleasant atmosphere for most people.
