Body Positivity: Loving the Skin You're In
Hey y’all!
I’m so happy Sydney asked me to be apart of this blog. I have to say I’m all for supporting other black women so I’m honored to be apart of this. It is imperative for black women to stick together. There is something so beautiful about unity! The hardships that we go thru is just unmatched which is why it’s so important to have “Self Care” days or a routine.
I always meditate or find something good to read in the morning! I also make sure to write in my journal each day to put out whatever I’m feeling and always leave cute notes to myself to remind me of how powerful and beautiful I am. Its east to get caught up sometimes and let insecurities get the best of you.
As a thick black woman I had to really find ways to gain confidence and truly love myself. This nation tells me that I’m not beautiful or desirable. I started to gain confidence when I started purchasing clothes that I never thought a bigger girl like me could be seen as “Hot” in! Everyday I would affirm myself that I was enough and sooner than later it just resonated with me that I’m a force. I honestly realized that my calling was to represent for people like me so I started going out to auditions for jobs I never would imagine I would actually book... and I did!
It is so important for little black girls and boys to see people who look like them in the media. I’m extremely blessed to be a Plus size professional dancer and model. I know it is my purpose to represent for my people on a higher platform. My younger self would’ve never thought that I would dance beside Beyoncé or be an ambassador for Rihanna’s lingerie brand “SavageXFenty”!
All that to say when you believe in yourself, not confide into what our society thinks, and trust in God there isn’t anything you can’t do.
