Scents to Activate Your Chakras

Scents to Activate Your Chakras

Chakras are energy centers. They contribute to our health, vitality, emotions, and thoughts. And, of course, they also contribute to our spiritual growth. If you had to visualize them, they would look like spinning wheels. Some of them are located in our physical bodies and govern certain body parts or systems. Some others are located outside of our bodies and connect us to our ancestors and Divine realms. Yet all of the chakras are located within our aura or energy field.

The concept of chakras is thousands of years old and comes from Hinduism. The word “chakra” means “wheel” in Sanskrit. However, in the late 20th century, these spiritual concepts acquired a lot of popularity during the New Age movement. Nowadays, the idea of chakras we have has been Westernized. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t honor its roots.

The incorporation of fragrance is a powerful but often overlooked way to activate the chakras. Scent bypasses the mind. The mind is one of the biggest obstacles to achieving spiritual balance. By triggering your sense of smell, these high-vibrational scents go straight to the body.

Scent can also be used to create spaces where certain chakras can gradually go back into harmony. Scented candles and other home fragrance products can be used to benefit certain activities that have to do with the chakras. For example, you may burn a jasmine-scented candle to create art, or a lemongrass-scented candle to study. The most popular chakra system is made up of 7 main chakras. However, in this article, we’ll work with 9.

The Earth Star Chakra
The Zero or Earth Star Chakra, located a few inches below the soles of your feet, is of vital importance to BIPOC and other marginalized people. This is so because it connects us to our ancestors and the most ancient of our roots. Ancestral worship was of vital importance in African religions. These concepts were later appropriated by the Western world.
Some scents to immediately activate the Earth Star Chakra include Tonka Bean, Cedarwood, and Pomegranate. You can find these scent notes in our Tonka + Oud, Ashé, and Ruby Orchards home fragrances.
The Soul Star Chakra
The ninth chakra (called the Eighth as the Earth Star receives the number 0) is called the Soul Star and is located a few inches above your head.
It connects you with angelic realms. It also helps you channel information from your spirit guides. Some scents that can reconnect you to the Soul Star include Oak, Sea Salt (which can help you translate what you channel into art), and Maple. A versatile scent that connects you to both below and above (the Earth Star and the Soul Star simultaneously) is Pine. You can find these scent notes in our Aura, Magic Hour, and Frosted Pine home fragrances.

The remaining seven chakras are located in your physical body, alongside your spine...

The Root Chakra
The first chakra is located at the base of your spine and receives the name of Root Chakra. It gives you energy and vitality. It also rules over your sense of safety and your capacity to provide. Some scents that can activate the Root Chakra are Juniper, Cypress, and Plum. You can find these scent notes in our Frosted Pine, Ruby Orchards, and Muse home fragrances.
It’s a great idea to interact with these scents when you are feeling exhausted. They are also effective when you feel incapable of providing for yourself or your family. They are also protective scents. Over time, they will help you recuperate your general sense of safety.
The Sacral Chakra
The second chakra is located three fingers below your navel and receives the name of Sacral Chakra. It has to do with joy, pleasure, imagination, and creativity. It is also deeply associated with fertility and sexuality. The scents associated with this chakra are Chamomile, Orange, Patchouli, Neroli, Cinnamon, and Chili Pepper. You can find these scent notes in our Floral Fantasy, Spiced Wine, and Warm Ginger home fragrances.
Chamomile will calm you or your lover down if that’s an issue for either of you. Chili Pepper will spice things up. Lighting scented candles with Orange and Neroli will also stimulate you creatively.
The Solar Plexus Chakra
The third chakra is located three fingers above your belly button. It is the Solar Plexus chakra. It is the center of personal power and self-confidence. Your warrior spirit is located here. This chakra needs to be in harmony for you to be able to assert yourself and stand up for the causes you believe in.
The Solar Plexus is also the center for assimilation. If you are a student, having this chakra in harmony will help you memorize all the new concepts you interact with.
Some scents to bring the Solar Plexus back in harmony include Cedar, Amber, Almond, Vanilla, Amaretto, Saffron, Cardamom, Lemongrass, and Rhubarb. Some, like Vanilla, soothe this energy center. Others, like Lemongrass, give it a boost if that’s what’s needed. You can find these scent notes in our Creme Luxe, Glow, Crowned, and Pamper Me home fragrances.
The Heart Chakra
Then, there’s the Heart Chakra. This energy center has to do with compassion, empathy, and your ability to give and receive love. It acts as a bridge for the whole chakra system, embodying the idea that all human beings are love at our core. Scents like Red Currant, Camphor, Oakmoss, Bergamot, Moss, Green Floral, Green Tea, Apple, Rose, and Chrysanthemum. You can find these scent notes in our Rose Petal Gelato, Muse, Morning Dew, and Green Tea + Lemongrass home fragrances.
Of course, some of these scents, like Oakmoss, soothe the heart. They are more appropriate when you’re going through grief or a breakup. Others, like Rose or Bergamot, awaken your capacity to love and your passion.
As the Heart acts as the bridge for all the chakra systems, it comes as no surprise that some scents harmonize both the Heart Chakra and another chakra in the system…
A scent like Red Wine activates your capacity to love and acts on the Root Chakra as well. This can revitalize you, even if you’re disheartened or lost hope.
Jasmine activates both the Sacral Chakra and the Heart Chakra. This means it can be used to attract a passionate lover you’re also head over heels for into your life.
The Throat Chakra
The Throat Chakra is the fifth chakra. It has to do with how you express yourself. It also has to do with your capacity to set boundaries. It also has to do with the authentic expression of the self.
Some scents to bring this chakra back into harmony include Mint, Coriander, and Fig. Some of these scents, like Fig, also integrate the wisdom of the Soul Star Chakra. This means that it helps you articulate the wisdom you channel from your spirit guides. You can find these scent notes in our Revive, Amazonia, and Creamsicle Haze home fragrances.
Light a scented candle or use any other form of home fragrance product with these scents when you invite someone over to talk. They also come in handy when you’re afraid to show others who you truly are.
The Third Eye Chakra
The sixth chakra is the Third Eye Chakra. It has to do with your capacity to focus intellectually, but also with your intuition and with sensing what isn’t readily visible. Some scents to harmonize the Third Eye Chakra include Petitgrain, Sandalwood, Lavender, Coconut, Lily, and Blackberry. You can find these scent notes in our Eunoia, Cashmere Clouds, Bamboo Coconut, and Satin + Silk home fragrances.
Interact with these scents whenever you need to concentrate for extended periods. You can also use scents for the Third Eye long-term to start identifying the voice of your intuition over the voice of your mind or your ego.
The Crown Chakra
Finally, the seventh chakra is located at the top of your head and receives the name Crown Chakra. It acts as the boundary between yourself and the spirit world. It helps you channel Divine wisdom from your guides and guardian angels. It helps you reconnect with your sense of purpose. Scents like Sage, Rosemary, Rum, White Tea, Anise, and Tobacco Leaves can immediately bring it back to harmony. You can find these scent notes in our Nubian Shea, Pineapple + Palm Trees, Eunoia, and Creme Luxe home fragrances.
